Handwritten notes don't scale to 300 million products. Mystery purchases don't work when algorithms track everything. Community doesn't fit in a cardboard box.
That bookstore isn't trying to be better at what Amazon does. They're doing what Amazon structurally cannot.
Most businesses die copying their competition. The survivors find what their competition cannot deliver and lean into it hard.
