Success Without Loss? That’s Just Luck in Disguise Some folks brag about never losing money. Never missed a deal. Never hit a wall. Never been punched by a market downturn. You know what that usually means? They haven’t done much. Or they got lucky. Probably both. Because real experience doesn’t come clean. It comes with bruises, regret, and invoices labeled tuition. Yes, you can learn from others. And yes, smart people try to. Most of us don’t remember those lessons. Not deeply. Not in our bones. Why? Because of one nasty human bias: We think we’re the exception. We listen to someone else’s horror story and think, “That won’t happen to me.” Until it does. Then suddenly the story makes sense. Experience earned firsthand sticks longer than wisdom borrowed. Not because it’s better—but because it’s painful. And pain has a longer memory. So no, I don’t trust people who haven’t lost money. They haven’t seen the ground fall out from under them. And they haven’t built the muscle to climb back up. Success without loss? That’s just luck in disguise. And luck always runs out.
