Burger King deployed an AI assistant called โPattyโ across 500 locations. It lives in employee headsets. It tracks inventory, answers operational questions, and analyzes drive-through conversations for โfriendliness.โ
The thread hit thousands of upvotes in hours. People called it authoritarian and dystopian.
Theyโre not wrong. But theyโre not seeing the full picture either.

Think about what business owners have never had: real data on how customers are being treated. Not mystery shoppers. Not Yelp reviews three days later. Real-time signal.
Patty already found that โapple pieโ was the most common item employees had to apologize for not having. Burger King brought it back after four years. Thatโs AI finding patterns humans miss.
Now multiply that across training, coaching, and service quality. You donโt have to guess if your new hire is greeting customers. You donโt have to wonder why one location has 3x the complaints. The feedback loop shrinks from weeks to hours.

Audio is just the starting point. Police wear body cams. Service workers are next. AI watching the interaction, scoring the tone, reading the body language in real time.
Employees see where this heads. So do unions. Expect workplace AI monitoring bills at the state level within 18 months. Expect walkouts at chains that move too fast without earning trust first.
