As someone who's survived enough software rollouts to develop a professional eye twitch, I had to chuckle at the "just deal with it" approach mentioned in your article. Nothing says "chaos incoming" quite like deploying new software across 70+ properties simultaneously – a lesson I learned the hard way!
Your point about change makers resonated deeply. We took it a step further and assembled what I called our "Problem Prevention Posse" – a motley crew of maintenance supervisors, leasing agents, property managers, IT, trainers, and HR managers. Because, let's face it, if you haven't had a maintenance supervisor point out that the new system doesn't account for their 3 AM emergency calls, you're not really testing.
My favorite unexpected hiccup? Discovering our leasing funnel system and new software got along about as well as cats and swimming pools. Thank goodness we caught that during our pilot with just three properties, or we'd have had 74 different versions of "the system ate my leads!"
Remember: Regarding software rollouts, it's better to have three properties sending you strongly worded emails than an entire portfolio reaching for their pitchforks.
To all future change-makers: Yes, your pilot group needs that one person who questions everything. They're not being difficult; they're finding the problems before they find you!
