While the robotics industry burns billions building humanoids that fold laundry in a lab, a company in Charlotte is pressure washing buildings with drones and canโt keep up with demand.
Lucid Bots makes the Sherpa, a cleaning drone that handles building exteriors up to 150 feet. Soft wash for stucco and EIFS. Pressure wash up to 4,500 PSI for concrete and brick. Window cleaning with a squeegee payload. One pilot. One ground crew member.
If you own one building, this is interesting. If you run a portfolio, the math changes fast.
Your maintenance crews already pressure wash. The expensive part is getting above two or three stories. That means boom lift rentals at $300 to $1,000+ per day, extra crew for safety, or subbing out the high work entirely. Every property, every time.
Five properties washed twice a year. Call it $1,000 to $2,400 per property just for the lift rental. Thatโs $10,000 to $24,000 a year in equipment you never own.
The Sherpa platform runs $2,500 a month financed. Your maintenance guy gets FAA Part 107 certified ($175 test), learns to fly it, and now heโs washing buildings at height without renting a lift. The drone moves property to property. The boom lift gets rented fresh every time. The more sites you add, the better the unit economics get.
They also make the Lavo, a ground robot for sidewalks, parking lots, and dumpster pads. Your guy flies the drone on the building while the robot handles the flatwork. Two jobs running simultaneously with the same headcount.
Lucid Bots recently waterproofed a university stadium using the same drone frame. Painting and coatings are coming next. They had 50 inbound leads a month for those services before they even marketed them. If those payloads mature, your rehab crew handles exterior wash, waterproofing, and painting without subcontracting. That changes the cost structure on every deal you underwrite.
Fair warning: drones have limits. Wind grounds them. Heavy mineral stains and deeply recessed windows still need hand work. Battery life is 19 minutes per set (a new power tether fixes this but adds cost). And the quality is best for routine maintenance, not heavy restoration.
523 equipment deals closed. Operators across 40+ states generating over $75 million in cleaning revenue. Clients include Disney and Sunbelt Rentals. 93% of new business is inbound.
The future is coming faster than you thinkโฆ
